Cayman Islands lawyers are some of the best paid in the world. While that may sound hard to believe, it’s true. We have helped magic circle lawyers double their net pay (it helps that most lawyers are higher rate tax payers). We’ve even been known to treble net salaries for top lawyers with firms outside London.
While offshore lawyers work hard, the expectation in chargeable hours is normally lower than in city law firms. Combining shorter, more predictable office hours with considerably shorter commutes (typically 15 minutes) adds up to a work-life balance that is impossible to beat.
At CML, we understand that money isn’t everything, and for most lawyers lifestyle comes second to career. Cayman is one of the few places in the world you won’t sacrifice quality of work for lifestyle. We can go into more detail on quality of work in your specific practice area during our initial consultation.
As the fifth largest financial centre by transaction value, there is consistent demand for lawyers and barristers with heavyweight international experience in Corporate, Finance, Funds, Commercial Litigation, Insolvency or Trust practice areas. There is also a smaller market for Property, Family, Employment, Criminal, In-House and General Practice lawyers.
The Cayman Islands legal system is based on English law. Therefore in order to practice law in the Cayman Islands, you must be admitted as a lawyer or barrister in another Commonwealth jurisdiction (Typically the UK, Australia, Canada or NZ) and you must have at least 3 years PQE.
If you have the right experience and a desire to take your life and your career to the next level, we would love to hear from you.
