The Cayman Islands Society for Human Resource Professionals hosted its 9th Annual Conference on 17th May 2012. Over 100 members of the society, including HR Managers, business professionals and supporters of the society, met at this annual event.

This year’s theme HR, Not Business as Usual focused on current challenges of HR functions in times of recovery, organizational change, while introducing long-term planning and sustainable development. The list of speakers included renowned and well respected names from both the local and international HR community. The interactive Shirlaws workshop delivered by Tom McCallum got our brain cells working and was extremely well received, along with the highly informative and complex presentation by AON Cayman Islands‘ Managing Director Dan MacLean ‘HR in the Boardroom’. Bonnie Nelsen gave all HR Managers a useful recipe to create a business case and win support of the top management for introducing new HR programmes and activities. This year’s keynote speaker was a SHRM representative Sherry Johnson, who shared her and SHRM’s visions of future of HR.

The venue this year was the Ritz-Carlton, an ideal location for this prestigious business event. The CISHRP Annual Conference is traditionally one of the top events within the HR community of Cayman Islands, and attracts not only members of the society, but also professionals from other business areas and small business owners who take the opportunity to share ideas, exchange best practice and network. The day of learning and knowledge sharing ended with an evening of entertainment and a cocktail reception.

CISHRP was formed in 2000, and acts as the authority on people management issues in the Cayman Islands. The society takes an active role in promoting the best practices in people management in the Cayman Islands, advocates the recognition of the HR field and advancement of the HR standards, supports professional development and delivers certification programs for its members.
