The Queen was inaugurated in Westminster Cathedral in 1952 and has now reigned through several Jubilees. Her coronation took place on 2nd June 1953 and her Silver Jubilee in 1977 which celebrated 25 years. Even more impressive was the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002, marking 50 years on the throne.
This weekend her Majesty celebrates 60 impressive years as the British Queen. I am sure Blighty will be in full party mode this weekend. Even for those of us who live miles away from home, there is no excuse for not joining in the celebrations at local community events. Here in the Cayman Islands, the Diamond Jubilee itinerary is as follows:
May 2: Torch run – Pedro St James
June 2: Jubilee Flotilla and Fireworks – Camana Bay
June 3: Celebratory services and lunches
June 4: Official Ceremonial Parade and International celebration of food and music – Heroes Parade
June 5: Planting of trees – island wide (world environment day)
So put on your red, white and blue, eat scones, top-up the PIMS and listen to some Elgar and hey we’ve got the weather for it too…
