99,117 hours is a long time to be unhappy…

Working in recruitment we speak to people on a daily basis who are unhappy at work, prompting them to look elsewhere. The average person will spend 30% of their life at work, this is 99,117 hours…this is A LOT of time to be miserable!

However, often there are small steps you can make yourself to improve your working environment; here are some things you might want to consider:

• COMMUNICATE: Speak with your line manager – often they might be surprised to hear you are unhappy and offer ways to help and sometimes just getting things off your chest will make you feel better.

• MOTIVATIONS: Consider what motivates you and what changes you can make to make your job more enjoyable.

• COLLEAGUES: Try to get on with your colleagues as relationships at work can be the key to your working happiness and make the office environment that more enjoyable.

• MONEY: Often people assume that the key to their happiness would be more money, obviously this helps but it is not always the answer… it is important to ensure that you are paid to the appropriate level and to be ambitious, but money isn’t the key to happiness.

• CAREER GOALS: It’s always good to have a clear plan of your career goals so that you know what steps you need to take in order to achieve these goals.

• SPEAK UP: If there is a project at work that interests you or you feel would help with your career goals then speak up and volunteer to get involved, what’s the worst that could happen?

If you have gone through all of the above steps and still feel that your position is not for you then seek advice with your recruitment consultant at CML, it is our job to help you make the most of your career and offer advice in any way we can!
