As a fund accountant, your day-to-day mainly revolves around planning and preparing financial reports for a portfolio of funds. Fund accountants are responsible for calculating NAVs in accordance with individual funds' requirements as well as liaising with clients and auditors. Due to this, fund accounting is often an attractive move for someone auditing a portfolio of funds clients.

What Experience is Needed?

To be considered for a fund accounting role, you must be a fully qualified accountant (CPA, ACCA, ACA). The ideal candidate profile is someone who has audited funds and is therefore familiar with the industry already, or if entering at a more senior level, has previous fund accounting experience.

Fund accounting doesn't typically support rapid career progression like a career in audit can. Still, it will allow individuals to afford a better work-life balance and, down the road, potentially enter into a fiduciary relationship with clients after developing a long-term trusted relationship.
