Changes to WOL procedures

by Gemma on January 19, 2012

I blogged a few weeks ago about the Cayman Islands Department of Immigration issuing new forms for work permit applications and renewals. The situation is also the same for any WOL (Working by Operation of the Law) applications and payments.

If you have a work permit application or renewal rejected you can appeal the decision. In order to keep working while your appeal is being processed you need to submit a WOL application along with a payment equating to 6 months of your work permit fee and an application fee. In the past you then just had to pay the WOL fee every 6 months with a cover letter explaining you wished to continue with the WOL. However now each time a WOL six monthly payment is made an application form needs to be submitted along with documents including:

  • Proof of your enrollment in a pension plan
  • Proof of your enrollment in a health insurance plan
  • An original medical questionnaire if applicable (full medical only required every 3 years but HIV/VDRL is only valid for 6 months)
  • Copy of the appeal fee receipt
  • Copy of the employers Business License
  • Cover letter stating why WOL permit is required

As per my previous blog please remember Immigration will not accept old application forms or incomplete applications from March 1st 2012…You have been warned!

The link below will take you to the WOL application form on the Department of Immigration website.
