New TV Broadcaster proposed for Cayman

by Chris on May 18, 2011

Yet another new and exciting development for the technology industry in the Cayman Islands…Iceman Production, an international television broadcasting company specialising in sports programmes and sports marketing services has revealed plans to relocate to our shores. To further accentuate the coup that our islands have made, Iceman Production was previously slated to move to the US Virgin Islands.

The article reported in the Tuesday May 17th edition of the Caymanian Compass went on to describe the operations of Iceman in more detail. In particular the editing and production facilities will be brought to Cayman, thereby creating a platform for the Islands to be recognised in the global sports market for broadcasting as a supplier of multilingual international programming.

Iceman focuses in particular on Offshore Powerboat Racing, International Long Drive Golf and High Impact Motorsports. This has already had a significant knock on effect with news that the 2011 World Championships in Long Drive Golf will be staged here in Grand Cayman. An Offshore Powerboat Race has also been planned. These events have a commercial value to the islands of circa $25million each and an estimated broadcast audience of 350 million households; both English and Spanish speaking.

In short, it offers a tremendous opportunity for Cayman to offer itself as a broadcasting hub and is further evidence that the recent push by the Government to focus on rebranding the Cayman Islands as a regional technology centre is succeeding. Hot on the heels of the recent news that Chinese telecommunications company Cogo Group was looking to redomicile – the future is certainly looking extremely bright for Cayman’s burgeoning technology industry, even before detailed plans for the Special Economic Zone have been revealed.

All this has been achieved, even despite criticism by the Iceman CEO of the Cayman Tourist Board!
