One-stop Bermuda “Job Centre” takes shape

by Steve on December 4, 2011

Good news for Bermuda job-seekers. The government is moving ahead with a one-stop career-shop that provides Bermudian job-seekers with a range of much-needed services.

From the Bermuda Gazette:

“Services and facilities will include a job listing databank, pre and post employment assistance, training assessment and development, job referrals, employment and career counselling, apprenticeship programme referrals, trade certification, assistance with financial aid and scholarships as well as Internet and computer services.”

The proposal bears a striking resemblance to the Human Capital Development Agency announced earlier this year by the Cayman Islands’ Minister of Employment. It will be interesting to compare these government agencies in form, function and performance as they both take shape.

As the economy continues to sputter in Cayman and Bermuda, with unemployment in both countries stubbornly high by all accounts, both are badly needed.

What do you think? Can such agencies make a difference?
