So long! Farewell!

by Abbey on Oct 07, 2011

My time as CISPA Liaison Officer is officially over. During the last (almost) two years, I have been fortunate enough to have worked with the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants (CISPA) as their Liaison Officer. During this time, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of different people who have all had a huge impact on my life. I have learnt so much by working with them and I am grateful to them all for helping me along the way – not only teaching me about different things happening in the industry, but also helping me learn more about myself and my capabilities.

I remember when I started working in this position I felt really unsure about working with such important people. I learnt really quickly that they weren’t as scary as I thought they would be. They were all so lovely and supportive of me and I feel so lucky to have worked with them.

One of the projects that I enjoyed most in that role was organizing the annual gala event, which recognizes local accountants that have attained either their Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, or Professional Accounting Designation. Each year the event gets larger, with more and more graduates and newly qualified accountants being recognized for their efforts and dedication.

In 2011, CISPA hosted their fourth annual gala on Saturday October 1st. We had thirteen graduates who received awards for completing their Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and a further twelve individuals who have successfully attained their Professional Designations.

The feedback we have received so far has been really positive, and it has made all the hard work, late nights, and stressful want-to-tear-my-hair-out days seem not so bad.

Whilst organizing the event, I had the help of two lovely CMLers, Victoria Griffin and Kym Bailey. Not only did they help with the last minute running around and items on my to-do list, but they also helped me out on the night as well whilst I raced around like a headless chicken. They laughed at me when I was stressed, made me laugh when I wanted to cry, and helped me remember that things weren’t as bad as I was making them out to be. Thank you for everything ladies!!

CML TV were of course there to film all the action, so look out for the video!

(I’ll put a photo here when I remember to bring my camera/memory card!!)
