Things to do in Cayman when you’re on holidays!

by Abbey on Jan 06, 2012

Every day over the holidays I woke up early and got out of bed with no problems, after being up late entertaining our guests – so why am I finding it difficult to get up in the mornings now that I’m back at work?

The only reason I can think of is that my holiday wasn’t very relaxing, and my body is recovering. Don’t get me wrong – I enjoyed every minute of it, but we were always doing something.

When you are an expat living in the Cayman Islands, having visitors over is always exciting. You get to show people why you call this island home. You get to share your new life with them and remind yourself why you are lucky to be here, and how much you take it for granted (well I do anyway).

Having visitors gives you the excuse to re-visit all the ‘touristy’ aspects of Cayman all over again. It actually makes you feel like you’re off somewhere on a holiday yourself. You tend to forget all the stresses of work, which is a great way to switch off and relax.

Here are a few of the things we did with our visitors. You can use them as a guide for the next time you have visitors!

Swimming with Dolphins!
At Dolphin Discovery, on West Bay Road, you can have the experience of a lifetime by swimming with dolphins! There are a number of different packages to choose from. We chose to do the Royal Swim, which includes: A dolphin kiss, a dance with the dolphin, a water fight, a ‘foot push’ which involves the dolphins lifting you out of the water, and a dorsal fin ride.

These dolphins are truly loved by their trainers, and receive the best care imaginable.

Stingray City!
Interact with one of the most beautiful creatures in Cayman. The stingrays at Stingray City are friendly, and are used to being around hundreds of people each day. Get some good luck by giving one a kiss! (Check out our Stingray City video
HERE)

Diving!
We went diving with a company called Happy Fish Divers. Happy Fish are the company that Rob and I did our PADI course through. They have also helped my sister and a number of friends. The staff are all friendly, and extremely helpful. One of our friends had not done a dive before, so she was taken on a ‘discovery dive’. The discovery dive was a lot more than any of us expected – she was escorted by one of the Happy Fish staff and taken down 60ft to experience a whole new world. She loved every minute of it! If you are interested in taking your friends on a dive, call Happy Fish Divers on (345) 547-5699.

Turtle Farm!
Take your guests to the turtle farm (located across the road from Dolphin Discovery – if you buy the Royal Swim package, you get free admission to the Turtle Farm!). Learn all about turtles and their habits, hold baby turtles and even see a brown shark!

The Beach!
You probably won’t need any convincing to take visitors to the beach. We have several beautiful beaches in Cayman. 7-Mile Beach has actually been named the most beautiful beach in the Caribbean! (watch our CML TV video
HERE). A couple of my other favourite spots are Rum Point and Smith’s Cove.
